"The Girl Drowned in the Downpour of Words"
Mazhar ul Islam, born on August 4, 1949, is one of the few top short story writers of Pakistan. Undoubtedly, he is one of the best selling Urdu literary fiction writers of Pakistan. His literary fiction in Urdu language earned him great success, exceptional praise and popularity worldwide. He has served as Director with National Institute of Folk Heritage (Lok Virsa) and Director General, Pakistan Academy of Letters. He is author of nine books.
Dr. Chritopher Shackle, Pro-vice Chancellor and Professor of Modern Languages of South Asia, London University, have translated some of his works into English language. Dr. Chritopher, born in 1942, is a Fellow of the British Academy since 1990. He is the author of more than 20 books and numerous academic articles and translations.
